Gemini vs ChatGPT for AI photo prompts
By the pixkoz team · Updated · 4 min read
Gemini and ChatGPT can both take your photo and a prompt and give you back a new picture, and every free prompt on pixkoz works in both. They are not the same, though. This page compares them on what matters for a photo of you, as they stood in October 2026.
The short answer: start with the one you already use. If the result isn't right, paste the same prompt into the other one. It costs a minute.

What pixkoz creators use
Creators on pixkoz test every look before they publish it, and each look records which model made its example. Of the 248 looks published on pixkoz on 13 October 2026, 232 were made with a Gemini image model and 16 with OpenAI's.
That says more about habit than about quality. Gemini's Nano Banana model set off India's biggest AI photo trends in 2025, the saree and the 3D figurine among them, and most of our creators started there. So most example pictures on pixkoz show what Gemini does with a prompt; ChatGPT may give a different, sometimes better, result with the same words.
Keeping your face
This is the question people care about most, and the honest answer is that the likeness changes more from photo to photo and from run to run than from app to app. Both keep a face well when the photo is sharp, front-facing and evenly lit, and both drift when it is not.
Many people find that Gemini changes less of the original photo by default, which helps with likeness, while ChatGPT is happy to redraw more of the scene, which suits big changes such as an anime drawing or a film poster. Try both on your own photo: that is the only test that counts.
Words in the picture
Both have become much better at writing words inside pictures, such as a name on a birthday card, and both still make mistakes, especially in Hindi, Marathi or Urdu script. For anything that matters, leave the text out of the prompt and add it afterwards in a photo editor.
Getting the prompt in
On a computer or in a phone browser, Open in ChatGPT on pixkoz opens ChatGPT with the prompt already typed in; you attach your photo and send. Gemini has no such link, so Open in Gemini copies the prompt and you paste it. In the pixkoz Android app, both buttons hand the prompt straight to the ChatGPT or Gemini app when it is installed.
Privacy
Both companies may use what you upload to improve their AI unless you switch it off: Gemini's Keep Activity setting, ChatGPT's Improve the model for everyone setting. Both also have a temporary chat that, they say, is not used for training. Details in is it safe to upload my photo to AI apps?
So which one should you use?
- You use an Android phone and a Google account every day: Gemini is one tap away.
- You already use ChatGPT daily, or pay for it: start there.
- The face changed: try the other app with the same photo before you rewrite the prompt.
- You need words in the picture: try both, and keep a photo editor handy.
